Neither the Ability or Fact of God the Father or of Jesus
Granting Authority should be Questioned
.
Jesus, as the Son of God, had and has full authority in Heaven and on earth. Included in this authority
is the ability to pass on His authority. He did so in (Mt. 16:19, John 20:20-23, John 21:15-18, and as below. This does not imply that the men to whom He gave authority were personally perfect. They were all personally subject to human weakness. They always retain their personal ability to sin. But, the graces they have been given, for the benefit of others, always remains intact.
"But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins" --he then said to the paralytic, "Rise, pick up your stretcher, and go home." (Mt. 9:6)
When the crowds saw this they were struck with awe and glorified God who had given such
authority to human beings. (Mt. 9:8)
Then he summoned his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits to drive
them out and to cure every disease and every illness. (Mt. 10:1)
Jesus said to them in reply, "I shall ask you one question, and if you answer it for me, then I shall tell you by what authority I do these things." (Mt. 21:24)
So they said to Jesus in reply, "We do not know." He himself said to them, "Neither shall I tell you by what authority I do these things." (Mt. 21:27)
The people were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority and not as the scribes. (Mk. 1:22)
All were amazed and asked one another, "What is this? A new teaching with authority. He commands even the unclean spirits and they obey him." (Mk. 1:27)
"But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority to forgive sins on earth" (Mk. 2:10"
and to have authority to drive out demons: (Mk. 3:15"
He summoned the Twelve and began to send them out two by two and gave them authority
over unclean spirits. (Mk. 6:7)
and said to him, "By what authority are you doing these things? Or who gave you this authority to
do them?" Jesus said to them, "I shall ask you one question. Answer me, and I will tell you by
what authority I do these things." (Mk. 11:28-29)
So they said to Jesus in reply, "We do not know." Then Jesus said to them, "Neither shall I tell you by what authority I do these things." (Mk. 11:33)
and they were astonished at his teaching because he spoke with authority. (Lk. 4:32)
"But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins''--he said to the man who was paralyzed, "I say to you, rise, pick up your stretcher, and go home." (Lk.
5:24)
He summoned THE TWELVE and gave them power and authority over all demons and to
cure diseases, (Lk. 9:1)
and said to him, "Tell us, by what authority are you doing these things? Or who is the one who gave you this authority?" (Lk. 20:2)
Then Jesus said to them, "Neither shall I tell you by what authority I do these things." (Lk. 20:8)
"Father, the hour has come. Give glory to your son, so that your son may glorify you, just as you gave him authority over all people, so that he may give eternal life to all you gave him." (Jn. 17:2)
