The Death of God

This is the first email received following the posting of a document 8 April 1998 with the page title, "Pope John Paul II on Road Leading to Hell." The article is entitled, "Salvation Requires Repentance and Restitution."

QUESTION:

Have you ever read Nietzche, Father? He tells of the death of God and the rise of the ubermensch, a breed of man who will rule in God's stead. My question is this: Have you ever wondered if your God is dead, and has been replaced by a race of men who hold omnipotent sway over the universe? How else could it be that the corpses of the unborn lay piled unto the throne of Heaven and the successor of Peter walks the path of Satan, leading legions of the faithful into the putrid whirlpool of eternal damnation that is their reward?

       Please respond Father.

P.S. Praise be to the Lord Jesus Christ.

RESPONSE:

The Lord works in ways not comprehensible to those who think humanistically. While abortion is a major crime, it does not mean that the persons who are murdered by one form of abortion or another do not have an opportunity for salvation.

In short term thinking it might seem that God is not with us, but God is concerned with the future as well as the present. The message of the great flood, the message concerning Jesus' crucifixion, and a variety of other lesser events best understood by God have all had long term effects for the good of the eternal kingdom. Future generations may number into the trillions and beyond. We should try to understand what is taking place today in the light of the potentially long term future.

We must trust in God's wisdom as to why He has allowed grave crimes to continue. We must also remember that he has placed mankind in charge of the earth. It is our responsibility to resolve problems of evil for the sake of our own souls, not His.

God is not dead. My acquaintanceship with Him is too strong. My faith is in God and not in a misdirected pope (this does not mean that I do not accept the just authority of the Pope). God has given each one of us the ability to investigate truth and have discernment. Sufficient information together with the aid of the Holy Spirit received through faith is available for each person's salvation according to his ability to comprehend and act.

I repeat, God is interested in the long term and knows the disposition of each man's soul. This does not mean that He is not interested in each individual. God deals with and judges each one of us individually. Do not be fooled by appearances.

Keep in mind that on judgement day each one is accountable for his own faith and the actions which stem therefrom. Others are only the source of information upon which we evaluate, act and are judged.

              Sincerely in Christ,

                fr. david
