The American Pledge was established by proclamation of then President Benjamin Harrison.
The original pledge was amended in 1924 A.D. and further amended in 1954 A.D. as follows.
Pledge of Allegiance
I Pledge Allegiance to the flag
of the United States of America
and to the Republic for which it stands,
one Nation under God, indivisible,
with liberty and justice for all.
The above is a pledge of loyalty to the American flag and to the justice of the nation for which it stands.
The pledge was first used on October 12, 1892, during Columbus Day observances in public schools.
