-----Original Message----- TO THE FAITHFUL OF THE ARCHDIOCESE OF ST. PAUL AND MINNEAPOLIS, MN
As many devoted and concerned Catholics already know, a sacrilege of scandalous proportion took place last Wednesday, February 26, in the
sanctuary of the Basilica of St. Mary, the Minneapolis Co-Cathedral. The holy temple of our Virgin Mother Mary was desecrated with a performance by partially nude dancers who at one point formed a "centipede-like creature" that crawled up the steps in the sanctuary to a statue of the Blessed Mother. This was a direct confrontation to our Blessed Mother and was an intended insult by the evil one, who used these dancers and who used the Church authorities as his instruments to approve of this mockery of our holy sanctuary and our Holy Mother. The group invited by the Basilica to commit the audacious affront to Our Lady is named "Vox
Medusa," after the serpent goddess also called the "Lady of the Beasts." She is the archetypal antithesis of the most pure Virgin Mary and is
depicted with snakes entwined in her hair.
A large group of Catholics, whose religious sensitivities were deeply offended, tried desperately with phone calls to the Basilica and the Chancery to have this disdainful production stopped after having seen it advertised with graphic and highly offensive pictures in the St. Paul Pioneer Press' Tuesday edition (February 25). Repeated, insistent, and unambiguous admonitions and demands to have all 3 scheduled performances canceled were made to the top archdiocesan officials, both by phone and
in person, all day Wednesday right up to the 7 p.m. scheduled starting time - all to no avail. A last ditch effort was made by personal plea by
our officials to the Basilica director, Terri Ashmore, from 6 to 7 p.m. in her office. As it turned out, those at the highest level in the
archdiocese made the decision to cancel the advertised Thursday and Friday performances in response to the outcry, but permitted sacrilege
and desecration to take place before a select audience on Wednesday and before video cameras which taped this event, as if somehow public
crime is forbidden, but if done discreetly it is okay. On top of that, people who expressed their pain and outrage were told that the
desecration planned for Thursday and Friday was canceled, but were not told that our archdiocesan officials did consent to this taking place on Wednesday - and we know for a fact that this did take place.
We would like you who agree that it is time to stop the conversion of our Church into secular entertainment halls and the filling of God's
holy sanctuaries with profane pagan activities, to help us get to the bottom of this atrocity. Help us to find out who gave this permission in
the first place and why? Help us to find out why our bishops did not do their duty and make certain that the planned desecration was completely stopped, especially after so many people begged them to intervene? Where
did our bishops get the idea that allowing sacrilege to be committed once was okay as long as they did not allow it to happen 3 times? Are
they not attempting to dupe us into accepting a partial cancellation? Do you think their action in any way diminishes the outrage before God
whatsoever? Why was the voice of the faithful disregarded in favor of negotiations and repulsive concessions to this secular dance company named after a demon?
We believe that we can no longer refrain from reclaiming and re-consecrating our defiled sacred places for proper religious use as
our Holy Catholic churches should be used. Where are we Catholics going to go when our sacred places are profaned and no longer sacred? This
gradual seeping of corruption MUST BE STOPPED. We must and should be worthy of the promises of our Lord by defending our Heavenly Mother, and
His. The Suspend Abortion Compact organization sent a letter to Archbishop Flynn demanding from him an explanation and an account of the
atrocious act committed on Wednesday in the Basilica and of the dereliction of duty on the part of the bishops. We invite you to join us
in asking them for a full explanation in defense of our sanctuaries and our faith and our Blessed Mother that those responsible bear adequate
consequences for this hideous act.
Because the desecration occurred at 7 pm on Wednesday, we will be meeting at 7 pm every Wednesday in front of the Basilica starting on Ash Wednesday to make reparation and to pray for the re-consecration of this sacred place. Please join us every Wednesday until this repair is
formally done by those in appropriate authority in this archdiocese.
