The Modern Face of Bigotry
As reported in the December 1997 S.P.P., (copy enclosed) Bishop William Houck of the diocese of Jackson, Mississippi recently released a ‘pastoral' letter on children which he co-authored along with the Methodist and Episcopal bishops of Jackson. This document was seriously flawed in both its premise (increased socialism), and its content. It stared among other things that Jesus was "homeless" and "lost and forsaken" as a child. It inferred that Mary's pregnancy was unplanned and called Jesus' birth "dirty and germ infested." To add insult to injury, references to children were made with the term "born-child, making quite clear that pre-born children
were not included in the ‘bishops' concern. Our bishop even posed for the local media with the two pseudo-bishops upon the release of this scandalous document. (Both are pro-aborts).
I penned a letter to our Catholic diocesan paper calling upon Bishop Houck to publicly apologize to the Holy Family, all aborted unborn children, and all pro-lifers. The paper, Mississippi Today refused to print my criticism of our Bishop. They have no problem, however, printing criticism of the Pope and traditional Church teachings (especially in Fr. Richard McBrien's column).
I then appealed personally to the Bishop, in the spirit of Vatican II, to print my views. He told me that the editor, Jana Avalon considered my letter "mean spirited," and thus, I suppose, unworthy of printing. Now the Mississippi Today has printed letters calling traditionalists "ignorant" and "bigots." It prints ad-nauseam views critical of traditional Church teaching. Evidently, all the talk about ‘openness' and ‘dialogue' is nothing but a pretense to air heretical, modernist, and socialist views. For instance, in the Easter week issue, an upcoming ‘Creation Spirituality Seminar' is advertised. ‘Creation Spirituality' has been declared heresy and its originator, Fr. Matthew Fox was expelled from the Dominican order because of it! So the pattern is: heretical views, and views critical of traditional Church teaching and the Pope are ‘dialogue.' Views critical of our Bishop or modernists are ‘mean spirited.' Got it?
Socialists and modernists have always talked about ‘dialogue' when they are in the minority. When in control, however, they censor and repress public debate, calling their opponents "mean," "ignorant," "bigoted," etc., and never engaging their arguments. They do this because they know that they can't win an honest, open debate. Like socialists of recent times (Nazis and Stalinists), our current socialist modernists brook no serious discussion in any forum under their control. The occasional letter critical of Fr. McBrien may be published, but no letters calling the Bishop to task for his socialist and feminist agenda are permitted. (He refuses to ordain deacons because he can't ordain women for instance). Traditionalists are persona non grata in American modernist parishes— except when the offering plate is passed around! Our Bishop has offered to discuss my
views privately. However, after publicly insulting the Holy Family, demeaning our Lord's birth and scanda1izing pro-life faithful by consorting with pro-aborts, a private discussion is all too convenient.
Just as the mainstream media will allow no honest public debate on abortion and other conservative ideas, the Mississippi Today will allow no public criticism of the Bishop and his socialist and feminist agenda. Alas, bigotry and censorship are alive in the Old South. But not by red-necked good ol' boys. No, the new censors and bigots are the leftist, socialists, and modernists. How times have changed!
May the Peace of our God the Lord Jesus Christ and the prayers of Our Dear Blessed Mother Mary be with you always,
/s/

P. S. Bishop Houck was recently seen on the cover of the Jackson, Mississippi Clarion Ledger with Mississippi Attorney General Mike Moore posing with a multimillion dollar government check extorted from the tobacco industry. They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Surely an American bishop standing next to a big government check with a grin on his face says it all about the socialist mentality of the Amchurch.
