POPE - from the Greek word "pappas" a child's word for father. "A trusted male who provides for those in his charge and trains them in a manner which corrects and molds character."

Note in the title the perspective of an infant's innocent trust in the one selected
to be his leader in faith and protector from the influence of devils.

"Salt is good, but if salt itself loses its taste, with what can its flavor be restored? It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile; it is thrown out. Whoever has ears to hear ought to hear." Lk 14:34.

"I give you a new commandment: love one another." Jn 13:34

One with spiritual love practices the corporal and spiritual works of mercy. These are the evidence of one's love. Obedience to commandments without practicing the "works of mercy" -- according to one's ability -- brings damnation.
  1. "`My son, do not disdain the discipline of the Lord or lose heart when reproved by him; for whom the Lord loves, he disciplines; he scourges every son he acknowledges.' Endure your trials as "discipline"; God treats you as sons. For what "son" is there whom his father does not discipline? If you are without discipline, in which all have shared, you are not sons but bastards." Heb 12:5.

  2. "Those whom I love I reprove and chastise." [Revelation 3:19]
      CHASTISE:
      1. to inflict punishment on (as by whipping)
      2. to censure severely : CASTIGATE - synonym see PUNISH [Webster's]

    "Correct your son, and he will bring you comfort,
    and give delight to your soul." [Prov 29:17]

  3. ..."We are being disciplined so that we may not be condemned
        along with the world." [1Cor 11:32]

REFLECTIONS:

Of what concern is a poisonous snake without fangs?
How dangerous is a shark without teeth?
Should a placid, well fed tiger be of much concern?

Unenforced rules and regulations are soon ignored.
Enforced laws are given the respect commonly received by rampaging bull elephants.

The people of Nazi Germany were diverted to special interests.
They knew about Dachau and other death camps but preferred self-preservation.
