SOME CATHOLIC BASICS
1) SIGN OF THE CROSS (In Latin)
In the name of the Father, and of the Son.
and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
2) APOSTLES' CREED (In Latin)
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.
From thence he shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of the saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.
3) OUR FATHER (In Latin)
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed
be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will
be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us
this day our daily bread and forgive us our
trespasses as we forgive those who trespass
against us, and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.
4) HAIL MARY (In Latin)
Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with
thee. Blessed art thou among women, and
blessed is the fruit of thy womb. Jesus.
Holy Mary, mother of God, pray tor us sinners
now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
5) GLORY BE TO THE FATHER (In Latin)
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.
6) ACTS OF CONTRITION
A) 0 my God, I am sorry for all my sins,
because they displease You, who are all
good and deserving of all my love. With
your help I will sin no more.
B) 0 my God. I am most sorry for ever
having sinned, and I detest all my sins
because I fear the loss of heaven and
the pains of hell but I am sorry most
of all because I have offended You, my
God. Who are all good and deserving
of all my love. With your help I am
determined to confess my sins, to do
penance, and to amend my life. Amen.
C) O my God, I am heartily sorry for having
offended you, and I detest all of my sins
because of thy just punishment. But, most
of all because I have offended you, my God,
Who are all worthy and deserving of all
my love. I firmly resolve, with the help
of thy grace, to sin no more and to avoid
the near occasions of sin.

21) ST. PAUL ON LOVE
If I have the eloquence of men or of angels.
but speak without love, I am simply a gong
booming or a cymbal clashing. If I have
the gift of prophecy, understanding all the
mysteries there are, and knowing everything,
and if I have faith in all its fullness,
to move mountains, but am without love,
then I am nothing at all. If I give away all
I possess, piece by piece. . . . but am without
love, it will do me no good whatever.
Love is always patient and kind; it is never
jealous; love is never boastful or conceited;
it is never rude or selfish; it does not take
offense, and is not resentful. Love takes
no pleasure in other people's sins but delights
in the truth: it is always ready to
excuse, to trust, to hope, and to endure
whatever comes. (1 Cor. 13: 1-7)
